The aim of the Finnish Montessori Society (SML) is to support all the schools and children´s houses. We provide information and knowledge of Montessori pedagogy to all those who are interested. We aim to increase knowledge of Montessori pedagogy among the leaders in Early Childhood Education in different cities. In 2015 Mrs. Marja-Leena Tyrväinen and Mrs. Virpi Mustila took part in two different hearings and discussions, concerning the new Early Childhood Law at the House of Parliament in February.
We publish our own annual magazine. New Finnish Montessori 3-6 year DVD was published in 2015 and the translation of the Aid to Life was completed March 2016. We have plans to produce new DVDs about Montessori Elementary and environments for 0-3 year olds. We organize lectures and refreshment courses for our members, as well as lectures that are open to all those interested.
The Board meets once a month and works on voluntary bases. We have 300 individual members and 40 group members. The Finnish Montessori Society has been funded by membership fees, selling the Montessori Magazine, the Montessori DVD and through lecture fees.
